This Little Light of Mine LyricsThis is a featured page

"This Little Light of Mine" was written by Harry Dixon Loes (1895-1965) as a gospel children's song in ca. 1920. It is since regarded as a popular part of American folk tradition, and it became a Civil Rights anthem in the 1950's and 1960's. Along with Loes's original lyrics numerous additional verses have been sung and recorded by various people or groups over time.

Nationwide, we're asking M.U.M. participants to sing (at ca. 8:15 p.m. EST) the first verse of the original and then directly follow with a verse we created:

1) "This little light of mine, I'm going to let it shine. This little light of mine, I'm going to let it shine. This little light of mine, I'm going to let it shine. Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine."

2) "We're singing out for all mothers now and we're gonna let it shine. We're singing out for all mothers now, and we're going to let it shine. We're singing out for all mothers now, and we're going to let it shine. Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine."

Want to add the Spanish translation of the first verse? Here it is:

"Esta pequeña luz mia, voy a dejarla brillar.
Esta pequeña luz mia, voy a dejarla brillar. Esta pequeña luz mia, voy a dejarla brillar. Lo dejaré brillar, la dejaré brillar, la dejaré brillar.

Feel free to add additional verses or sing other songs after this one, if it seems meaningful and relevant for your community event. We encourage all organizers to add to the three common components of the nationwide M.U.M event in a way that creatively suits each organizers respective community.
